This week I had the privilege of speaking with painter Chris Long, whose gorgeous work I discovered on
Instagram.

Born and raised in CT, Long earned a degree from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Art in 2000. After several years of exhibiting and teaching figurative sculpture throughout New England, he took to the road in an RV with his family in 2008. After a couple of years of traveling, he had the impulse to switch mediums (which prior to this point he vehemently avoided) and started painting and selling his work in New Orleans at the French Market and on Frenchmen Street.

He currently paints from the iPhone photos his wife takes as they travel across the country.

Hi Caroline, I really enjoyed this interview, and hearing about Chris’ journey and process. This is the first of your podcasts that I have listened to, and I loved it! I thought I heard you say that you would take notes for us because mostly we listen when we are busy (so true). Where will I find these? I am so interested in the paint colours that he uses.
    Thanks Claudia Treagus

As a oil painter looking to go full time as a daily painter I can relate. Very interesting and valuable insight. Thank you!

Thanks, Meredith! I’m so glad it resonated. Many of us are struggling through the messy middle of transition, including me. I will definitely bring as many helpful “tips” as I can to the show about it. So glad you’re with us!

Great insight to Long’s process! Thank you for being open about how you view your own work and how you have grown as a painter.
